Without specific training for teaching music to the deaf, 23 years after having accepted the challenge to teach Music Education to the 2nd cycle of schooling in the Support Unit for Education of Deaf Children and Youth in the Algarve, in Faro, teacher Paulo Cunha shares with us some of the experience he has accumulated in the work he has developed with deaf students and LGP interpreters over the years. Topics such as the adaptation of content according to the specificity/degree of hearing impairment, the relationship of listeners with music in deafness, the relationship of deaf people with music, the importance of touch and sight in the relationship of deaf people with music, the importance of orality in musical production and interpretation by the deaf, the importance of movement and gesture in musical production and interpretation by the deaf, among other subjects, will be discussed. It is his conviction that, beyond silence in music, there is music in silence. Let’s know how to feel it and respect it!
