Learning Outcomes
> Piano reduction unit aims to develop reading skills and inner hearing ability of the score and its piano performance. Piano reduction requires the knowledge of how to demonstrate the score text on the piano, i.e., the ability to arrange and adapt. The realization of handwritten piano reduction and score analysis are additional supporting skills for score-reading.
> Playing on the piano and singing the instruments in “B” (such as: clarinet, trumpet etc.), as well as performing them simultaneously and together with instruments in C-clefs. Know how to playing/conduct the score through the bass line and/or melody. Make a written piano reduction of a work for choir and orchestra (excerpt) and playing them on piano.
Syllabus
Presentation of written piano reduction of a work for choir and orchestra; Playing on piano a movement of classical symphony or an overture; Presentation on the piano of a work or one movement of symphony wich includes instruments in “B” and/or other transposing instruments; Sight-reading of excerpts with instruments in “B”.

Beethoven: Symphonies. n.º 1 (I‐III), n.º 2 (I‐III), n.º 4 (I‐III), n.º 8 (I‐IV), Overtures “Coriolanus”, “Prometheus”, “Egmont”. Mozart: Divertiments K. 131, K. 205, KV 252, KV 334 (fragments), Symphonies nº 38 “Prague” KV 504 (I‐III), KV 543 (I‐III), nº 40 KV 550 (I‐IV), nº 41 “Jupiter” KV 551 (IIII), Overture from opera “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”. Bomtempo “Requiem” or other works of equivalent difficulty.
Teaching Methodologies
The study material presented in the class is consolidated through independent work. Control of learning is accomplished through weekly presentation of homework that includes individual preparation of extracts and selected scores on the piano, and the realization of handwritten piano reductions.
