Learning Outcomes

> To acquire the knowledge and rules how to manage the piano accompaniment in a small musical piece, using the previously studied examples, developing the “imagination” in the use of harmony structures and creativity.

> Introduction to improvisation through the studied rules. S. Rachmaninov chord (VII ¾ with 4th) in perfect cadence; Altered dominant and chromatic tonality; the rules of proceeding. Reading with six lines (four of the choir and two of the piano) and reduction of them, options of choice, harmonization of the “harmonic field”.

Works for sight-reading during the semester:

“Preludes”, “Waltzes” and “Nocturnes” by F. Chopin; “Children´s Corner” op. 113, 114, 138 C. Debussy; “Fugitive Visions” op. 22, “Tales of the Old Grandmother” op. 31, “Romeo and Juliet” op. 64, “Music for children” op. 65 S. Prokofiev; op. 3, op. 21, “Preludes” op. 32 S. Rachmaninov or others of equivalent difficulty.


Teaching Methodologies

Teaching methods are based on direct and indirect teaching as well as in active learning. The information presented in class is consolidated through independent work. Control of learning is accomplished through weekly presentation of homework that includes various tasks: realization of chords sequences, harmonization, and presentation of readied works.

The evaluation of student is based on fulfillment achieved during the semester and knowledge demonstrated in the exam.
