This biennial initiative aims to honour the memory of Paulo Gaio Lima, who passed away in May 2021 at the age of sixty. He was a leading figure at the Metropolitana, having played a part in the design and implementation of the project, where he cultivated a very special way of understanding music. Above all, and quite apart from being an extraordinary cellist, he was, in his generation, the most important cello teacher in our country – the majority of today’s Portuguese cellists were taught by him. In this edition, the conductor (and cellist) Bruno Borralhinho conducts two programmes featuring landmark works from the repertoire for this instrument. Of particular note is the participation of Claudio Bohórquez, a professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and a soloist of international renown.
