I’ve had the privilege of a career that has allowed me to travel around the world a lot. In these years of music and travelling, I’ve experienced different cultural and academic realities; my first home outside Portugal was north of Chicago, in Evanston, as a master’s student at an American university. Since then I’ve learned a lot, but I’ve also realised – critically observing the cultural and academic reality I’ve come to know – that the training I received in Portugal, and in particular at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, was unique and on a par with the best schools in the world.
