How do our music classes for babies and parents work?
Music is one of babies’ first forms of communication and expression. At Magic Notes, we offer moments of musical interaction specially designed for this age group.
Through sounds, rhythms and simple songs, babies develop their auditory, motor and emotional skills, while strengthening their bond with their parents. The activities are playful and involve simple instruments and voice exploration, providing an environment of sensory stimulation and affection. Our music classes for babies and parents take place in a safe and cosy environment, specially prepared for us to enjoy moments of family sharing through the art of music. Music classes for babies are held in the presence of a parent or other family member who wants to accompany the child.
Between varied rhythmic musical games, captivating magic, pedagogical games (prepared in advance), musical dialogues and counting on everyone’s participation and interaction, we create in each class a unique moment of communication that goes beyond verbalisation and pedagogical content.
It is through music that we teach, that we enhance various aspects of learning and it is also through music that we create space and time for the child to explore sound and music, together with their parents/carers.
We want to intervene in the human being’s development as fully as possible, especially with regard to the expressiveness of their emotions and how they inscribe them in the world around them.
We also want the child to have contact with various instruments/musicians, getting to know the different families of instruments and musical styles, in order to create an even broader musical experience.

The Childhood Activities sessions are fundamentally based on Edwin Gordon’s pedagogy, according to which there is no better time to start learning music than the day you are born. From this base, our sessions also reflect other contemporary approaches to child development: Modern School Movement, Waldorf, Montessori, Wuytack, Suzuki, among others. Our mission is to sow a seed in each child. A musical seed that, as time goes by, grows with them and music takes root in their imagination. Education through love, affection, respect for the child, their interests and curiosities, their pace of growth and their needs.
We believe that children develop best in an environment that values their own uniqueness, while offering support and opportunities to grow emotionally, socially and creatively. By encouraging their strengths, interests and curiosity, we want children to explore the world around them, develop new skills and create new bonds.
In our sessions, we aim to provide children with playful moments to prepare them to understand music ‘in their own way’ in the future, expressing personal melodic concepts autonomously and independently.

Structural elements of the sessions:
– Music with different sound and emotional characteristics;
– Different tones of voice/instruments and toys;
– Acquisition of rhythmic and melodic patterns;
– Sounds of the body, sounds of the environment, all kinds of quality music;
– Pauses and moments of silence; dialogue and interaction; exploration of the sound world;
– Movement and psychomotor coordination;
– Making instruments;
– Moments of improvisation and creation;
– Singing and speaking: the aim is not for the baby to be able to understand the words, but to initiate a learning process. They don’t understand the meanings, but let themselves be lulled by the soundscapes.
Cláudia Coelho, specialist in music for babies
Cláudia Coelho is a specialist in music for babies and has dedicated years to training teachers, enabling them to better serve children and families. Her tireless work has contributed significantly to recognising the importance of music in early childhood education.
With a career spanning two decades, Cláudia Coelho has built a solid project, Flauta Mágica, working in partnership with various schools and teachers, promoting music education from an early age.
Cláudia Coelho was a pioneer in creating music especially aimed at babies in Portugal, showing an innovative vision in the field of musical pedagogy.
Her commitment to excellence led her to the Edwin E. Gordon – GIML – The Gordon Institute for Music Learning, to study with Edwin Gordon, one of the most prominent names in the field of music education/pedagogy.
Today she continues to deepen her knowledge and positively influence the training of musicians and educators.
Cláudia Coelho believes that music is the awakening of all that is necessary for life, recognising its power to enrich children’s cognitive, emotional and social development. Her work is a testimony to how music can be a valuable tool in the education and healthy growth of new generations.
