Learning Outcomes

To acquire the knowledge and rules of construction, connection and linking of Subdominant and altered Subdominant chords (VI, IV and II degree) in the tonality, use it in musical form and know how to resolve it directly to the Tonic and via Dominant -Tonic. To develop the ability of sight-reading up to three voices or three lines of a given score. To know how to reduce the three lines score (for example: score with one vocal or instrumental line *without transposition* with two piano lines) and play them on the piano. To know the structure and harmonic contents of a song (Lieder). To know the “circle of fifths”, perform on the piano different harmonic progressions using this circle, know how to play two types of circle progression of Dominant seventh (ellipse of Dominants).


Syllabus

Works for sight-reading during the semester:

French Suites BWV 812-817 and English Suites BWV 806-811, “Das wohltemperierte Klavier (The Well-Tempered Clavier) Book I and Book II” by J.S. Bach, Ancient Arias of the 17thand 18th centuries, songs and Lieder of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries by composers such as: WA Mozart, F.Schubert, F. Mendelssohn or others of equivalent difficulty.


Teaching Methodologies

Teaching methods are based on direct and indirect teaching as well as in active learning. The information presented in class is consolidated through independent work. Control of learning is accomplished through weekly presentation of homework that includes various tasks: realization of chords sequences, harmonization, and presentation of readied works.
