Learning Outcomes
Acquire the knowledge how to construct and play on the piano simple musical forms (binary form with or without reprise; ternary form with middle section as a development based on the same thematic material or an episode). A comprehension and knowledge of the main styles of simple musical forms: March, Song, Waltz, Minuet and Siciliana. A knowledge of the harmonic language and “architecture of the hand” in the twentieth century piano repertoire; a comprehension of them through the harmonic language of classicism and romanticism.
Syllabus
Works for sight-reading during the semester:
piano works by composers of the first half of the twentieth century such as D. Schostakovitch, Y. Eshpai, D. Kabalevsky, N. Myaskovsky, A. Khachaturian, N. Medtner or others ofequivalent difficulty.
Teaching Methodologies
Teaching methods are based on direct and indirect teaching as well as in active learning. The information presented in class is consolidated through independent work. Control of learning is accomplished through weekly presentation of homework that includes various tasks: realization of chords sequences, harmonization, and presentation of readied works.
