Learning outcomes

Promote and foment autonomy in the organization of individual study.
Acquire instrumental levels of excellence that allowing successful performance of orchestra parts with particular emphasis and technical difficulties.
Develop the sense and capacity of leadership which permit the access to important orchestra roles such as concertmaster, section leader and soloists.
Achieve musical understanding levels that enable a fluent interaction with the others orchestra sections.
Achieve musical maturity levels that maximize interpretive initiatives and support an appropriate and inspired communication with the conductor.

Syllabus

The syllabus consists in the orchestra repertoire with predominance of composers from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, which particularly described in the Basic Bibliography
It contains works from contrasting periods and styles, referring to the specific repertoire of the various ensembles that are listed in the respective Basic Bibliography.

Teaching methodologies

The teaching methodology of the Curricular Unit is structured by monthly cycles in the case of Orquestra Académica Metropolitana:
– Individual study of the respective orchestral parts (1st week)
– Instrument section classes under the supervision of section teachers (2nd and 3rd week)
– Orchestra rehearsals under the guidance and supervision of the principal conductor of the Metropolitan Academic Orchestra (3rd and 4th week).
– Presentation in concert under the direction of the principal conductor of the Metropolitan Academic Orchestra (4th week)
– The concerts performances can be punctually or partially conducted by students of the Orchestra Conducting branch of the National Academy of Advanced Orchestral Studies.
– The remaining ensembles whose activities are included in the Curricular Unit have an one hour a week, with one public presentation during the semester.
