It has nothing to do with each other. Antonio Vivaldi and António Pinho Vargas only share the name and the trade. For the rest, they belong to tremendously distant universes – as distant as that which separates the Venetian 18th century from the Portuguese post April 25th. Their aesthetic and technical orientations are far apart, but there is a circumstance that unconditionally unites them: the appreciation that the Metropolitana’s musicians have for both of their music. Thus arranged, side by side, the contours awaken senses, as if opposites were mutually illuminating. To accentuate the effect, exclusively concertante works are played.
