The 35th edition of the Young Musicians Prize culminates with another Young Musicians Festival in the auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. This year we highlight the category of Orchestra Conducting, whose winner will take on the musical direction of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa in this concert. The programme is already known. It begins with the Danças Concertantes composed by Stravinsky in 1942. Although it is an autonomous score, it makes explicit allusions to the universe of dance that were appropriated by the choreographer George Balanchine in the form of music for ballet. It then continues with Schumann’s unique Cello Concerto, performed here by the winner of the Maestro Silva Pereira Award – Young Musician of the Year 2021, João Pedro Gonçalves.
