There are sounds that cling to history, as if they refuse to be extinguished. This is the case with Carlos Paredes’ melodies and ripping chords. More than two decades have passed since his disappearance and they stubbornly continue to make sense in these new times. In the year that marks the centenary of the birth of this extraordinary musician, Metropolitana transforms the timbre of the guitar into a symphonic register, bringing to the stage of the São Luiz Theatre some of the songs he played there in 1992, such as Canto do Amanhecer, Verde Anos and Dança Palaciana. The programme is rounded off with impressions of the streets of Lisbon in readings by Frederico de Freitas and Saint-Saëns, a tribute to Haydn signed by Brahms and Paganini’s spectacular Moto perpetuo, in dialogue with the Movimento Perpétuo de Parede.
