Four hands, this recital turns over the first notebook of our lives through three musical works. It begins with a melody that we all recognize immediately, such is its popularity. It is Mozart’s Little Night Serenade, written in Vienna in the summer of 1787, a few months before the premiere of the opera Don Giovanni. It brings together four humorous pieces that, on a reduced scale, replicate the configuration of a symphony. It was originally written for string quartet, but has adapted over time to a wide variety of instrumental formations. We then hear Bizet’s “Children’s Games,” a cycle of twelve miniatures that skillfully illustrate such games as swinging and bubbles. Finally, Ravel’s My Mother Goose, five pieces that evoke tales we all know, such as “Sleeping Beauty,” “Little Thumb,” or “Beauty and the Beast.”
