W. A. Mozart composed seven concertante symphonies, i.e. concertos for more than one soloist at the head of the orchestra. In KV 364, the viola d’arco and violin parts stand out, here entrusted to an excellent pair, Ana Bela Chaves and Ana Pereira. The OML concertmaster also takes over the musical direction of this program in which the orchestrations highlight the genius of the Austrian musician. First, that work reveals his first period of maturity. Then there’s Symphony No. 39, for the impressive way it combines and articulates the different families of instruments.
