“Fast with a lot of passion”. So begins this programme, with one of the most famous violin concertos of all time, Mendelssohn’s Op. 64. The orchestra’s entrance is announced by Chouchane Siranossian, a violinist who builds bridges between the baroque, classical and romantic repertoires. Without interruption, the three movements make way for the elegant protest with which Haydn toasted Prince Nikolaus in 1772, when the musicians of his orchestra were forced to extend their stay in Eszterháza, away from their families. In the last movement of the Farewell Symphony, they gradually finish their service and retire one by one. At the end, the concertmaster remains on stage in the company of Bach.
