“Today the famous Maurice Chevalier bids farewell to the public, leaving behind nostalgia and sympathy, but no hope of returning to São Luis. He would like to return, yes, but his life is a suite of songs that he needs to show around the world.” – read the Diário de Lisboa published on 4 May 1925 as an announcement of the last of five performances. The French singer would become even more famous in the following years. He enjoyed a stellar career in Hollywood and worked with musicians such as Cole Porter and George Gershwin. Nevertheless, in 1952 he returned to the stage of the São Luiz Theatre. Now his songs return in the voice of Jérôme Fitzgerald Collet, exactly 100 years after that first meeting.
