Bilhetes à vendaThe Great Fugue is a demonstration of the knowledge Beethoven accumulated throughout his life, a culminating exercise in technical refinement and stylistic refinement only achievable by a great master. Its complexity contrasts in this program with the Mozartian simplicity of the Sonata Op. 6, the three character pieces of Op. 45, and the playful arrangement of the eight variations that recreate a melody by Count Waldstein, the composer’s friend and patron. All this on a piano played four hands.
