Season 26/27

Gárgulas

Location to be announced, Alcobaça
Sun 25 Oct 18:00

Inspired by the set of gargoyles designed by José Aurélio for the Torre do Tombo, this concert presents four ‘panels’ in which the music acts like the gargoyle itself: it casts aside the superfluous to reveal the form. The Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra welcomes saxophonist Mário Marques on a journey that explores Debussy’s silent judgement (Sarabande; orch. Ravel), César Rafael’s dual mask (The View from Halfway Down) followed by Schulhoff’s dazzling irony (Five Pieces; arrangement for string orchestra), the transfiguring refinement of Nelson Jesus (Profundo Abissi) and the reconciliation between clarity and celebration in Satie (Gymnopédie No. 3; orch. Debussy) and in António Victorino d’Almeida’s luminous Concertino for Saxophone.
