A musician’s training involves a life project in which commitment, dedication, enthusiasm, resilience and talent all come together. It may involve conservatoires, informal learning, vocational schools, higher education institutions, masterclasses, workshops or any artistic activity that provides stage experience. It so happens that, in Portugal, we are now reaping the rewards of remarkable work carried out over recent decades, in which, alongside academic qualifications, competitions have played a decisive role. In this context, the Young Musicians’ Prize stands out by a wide margin, with the Young Musicians’ Festival serving as the occasion for honouring the previous year’s winners. In this concert, we have the opportunity to hear the violist Teresa Macedo Ferreira (Young Musician of the Year 2025 / Maestro Silva Pereira Prize) performing two works of great expressive intensity, by Britten and Dvořák. The Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra also adds works by Cherubini and Joly Braga Santos to a programme that spans different eras, musical languages and sensibilities, always in the service of musical excellence.
