The term “World Music” has its own connotation. It refers to a musical genre based on a specific tradition, which confronts us with the fascination and differences of the Other. But isn’t all music “World Music”? Precisely, the programme of this concert proposes wandering in the company of an orchestra through worlds other than this one. It begins with the streets of Lisbon in the 1920s. It then evokes the Hungarian gypsy communities of 100 years ago. It sets the scene in the Elysian Fields, the paradise of the dead in Greek mythology. It continues with popular festivals in Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century. It recreates the delirium of a woman who agonises over a macabre dance. It ends with a stylisation of the Malambo, a vigorous dance practised by Argentinian rural workers.
