Tickets for saleBrahms’ Concerto for Violin and Orchestra has always divided opinion. The symphonic apparatus leads some to understand it as a Concerto “against” the Violin, while others, on the other hand, think it is a Violin Concerto “against” the Orchestra. Everyone regrets, however, that he didn’t compose more works in this format. It unfolds in a balance that unsettles, in a succession of concordances, jolts and vibrant melodies. It’s a sublime forty minutes, thus entrusted to the interpretation of the prestigious German violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann and conductor Pedro Neves at the head of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra. Before that, the beautiful Nocturne composed by Joly Braga Santos at the age of eighteen opens the way for the absolute premiere of another work by Miguel Azguime – a Concerto for Orchestra, by the way.
