Tickets for saleThe wind repertoire grew exponentially in the last quarter of the 18th century, thanks to technical innovations introduced in the construction of the instruments and to the “new taste” cultivated in the stately homes around the Habsburg court. These wind ensembles were called Harmonie, and they mainly played transcriptions of excerpts from operas and orchestral works. But there was also interest in original works. It is not surprising, therefore, that Beethoven composed several chamber works for these instruments soon after he settled permanently in Vienna in November 1992. These are the cases of the sextet and quintet that are joined in this program by the Metropolitan Soloists. In between you will hear a piano trio that still comes from the Bonn days.
