Conductor, composer, teacher… Eugène Bozza was a prominent figure in the French music scene for much of the 20th century. He headed the Opéra-Comique in Paris in the 1940s. He was then Director of the Conservatory of Valenciennes for more than two decades. He composed a significant number of operas, ballets, symphonies, and concertos for soloists and orchestras. However, it was his chamber music that brought him the most international recognition. Bozza was often hired by educational institutions to compose short pieces for exams and competitions, often for soloists accompanied by piano. Although he began his professional career as a violinist, even winning a prize at the Paris Conservatory in 1924, his works for wind instruments took on particular relevance. Indeed, the French musical tradition has always invested heavily in these instruments. This music is also very attractive for both students and professionals. It combines virtuosity with lyrical expression. It brings together multiple stylistic trends, from the most classical to the impressionistic, and even jazz. In this recital, the Solistas da Metropolitana place the oboe, bassoon, and trumpet ahead of the piano.
