Born in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Lurdes Carneiro began her bassoon studies at Escola Profissional Artística do Vale do Ave – ARTAVE, in 1993, with professor Robert Glassburner. In 2003 she finished her degree in Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto, with professor Hugues Kesteman. In 2002, under the ERASMUS Exchange Programme, he had the opportunity to work with Professor Gunter Pfinzenmaier at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe. He also held masterclasses with professors Arlindo Santos, Sergio Azzolini, Vincenzo Menghini, Pierre Kerremans, Pierre Olivier Martens and Gustavo Nunez.
As a student he integrated the Private Music Schools Orchestra 1997 and 1998, the National Wind Orchestra of the Templars (1999 and 2000), the Sinfonieta Orchestra and the Academic Orchestra of Porto. In April 1998 he participated in the XII Curso Internacional de Música Antiga organised by the Lisbon Academy of Ancient Music where he had the opportunity to work with Ana Mafalda Castro, Jill Feldman, Peter Holstag, Rainer Zepperling, Richard Gwilt and Ketil Haugsand. In 2000 she integrated the Summer School of the Youth Orchestra of the European Union where she had contact with Eckart Hübner, Lutz Köhler, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yakov Kreisberg and Christopher Adey. She was awarded the Young Musicians Prize in 1998 with an Honourable Mention in Chamber Music / Middle Level and, in 2003, the 2nd Prize in Bassoon / Superior Level.
In his professional activity as a freelance musician, he has collaborated with Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto – Casa da Música, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Real Filarmonia da Galiza, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Camerata Nov’Arte, Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa and Remix Ensemble.
In the field of chamber music he has integrated the Serenade Ensemble and the Assai Wood Quartet, performed in Vila Real, Vila Praia de Âncora, Castelo de Paiva, Porto, Viana do Castelo and Lamego. He has been a member of the Portuguese Symphonic Band since 2009, participating in the recording of several CDs, winning the 1st Prize at the WMC – Kerkrade (Netherlands) and the tour to China in 2014. He also had the opportunity to make the national premiere in 2016, of the Concerto for Bassoon and Wind Ensemble Avatar, by the American composer Dana Wilson.
As a teacher, he has taught at Escola de Música de Perosinho, Academia de Música de Oliveira de Azeméis, Escola Profissional de Música de Viana do Castelo and Escola Profissional Artística do Vale do Ave – ARTAVE. He also gave masterclasses at the Academia de Música Costa Cabral, Conservatório de Artes Canto Firme and Academia de Artes de Chaves. He holds a Master’s degree in Music Teaching from the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University.
In March 2017 he joined the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa as Bassoon – Soloist B. Since January 2018 she occupies the position of Soloist A.
She was a grantee of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation between 1996 and 2003.
