Jorge Camacho

Born in Lisbon, Jorge Camacho is Clarinetist Soloist of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, conductor of the Orquestra Geração Municipal de Lisboa and Consultant for the Municipal Music Intervention Plan of the Câmara Municipal de Loures.

He was the guest conductor of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, assistant conductor to conductors Jean-Sébastien Béreau and Pedro Amaral and then had the opportunity to conduct the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa. He regularly conducts youth orchestra internships such as the Orchestra Festival of St. Julians School, the Orchestra Internship of the Conservatório Regional do Algarve, the Summer Internship of the Metropolitan Music Conservatory and the Orchestra of the Lisbon International Double Reed Festival.

He has taught in some of the best conservatories and music schools in the country such as the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, Évora University, Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional, Escola Profissional Metropolitana, Metropolitana Music Conservatory, Alcobaça Music Academy, Setúbal Regional Conservatory, Almada Music Academy and Almada Music Conservatory where he held the position of Pedagogical Director.

He graduated from the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra with 19 out of 20 marks in the clarinet classes of professors Nuno Silva and Etienne Lamaison. He was a student of Orchestra Conducting with maestro Jean-Marc Burfin at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra while developing his training with maestros such as Peter Eötvös, Emilio Pomàrico, António Saiote and Pedro Neves. He has held several masterclasses with some of the best clarinetists in the world today, including António Saiote, Michel Arrignon, Paul Meyer, Philipe Couper, Gui Deplus and Juan Ferrer, among others.

As a clarinetist, he has won several prizes at national level, where the National Young Clarinetists Competition in 1999 stands out. In the same year, he was selected as Soloist A of the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras. He has played solo with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana and the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras. He has collaborated with some of the main Portuguese orchestras as well as with the Philarmonic Orchestra of the Americas with which he toured the USA.

He participated in the production of the opera Otello with the Swedish Opera Fabriken Company where he performed several recitals in Scandinavia. He has given lectures on behalf of Portugal in several international congresses and meetings of clarinetists.

He was Principal Clarinetist of the Banda da Armada between 1996 and 2006.
