Chamber Music

Born in Gouveia (1993), Rafaela Oliveira began her musical studies at the age of 8 at the Sociedade Musical Gouveense. At the age of 14, she entered the Seia Music Conservatory, where she completed the 5th Grade of Clarinet in the class of Professor Carlos Silva. In 2010, she began learning bassoon with Professor Ricardo Santos at the Serra da Estrela Professional School. The following year, she enrolled at the Viana do Castelo Professional Music School, in the bassoon class of Professor Lurdes Carneiro. In 2016, she completed her degree in Orchestral Instrumentalist at the National Superior Academy of Orchestra, in the class of Professor Roberto Erculiani, and in 2022, she completed her master’s degree in Music Teaching at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.

In 2014 and 2015, she was a member of the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa, with which she toured Germany and participated in the Kultursommer Nordhessen (Kassel, Germany) and Young Euro Classic (Berlin, Germany) festivals. He also took part in the Gulbenkian Orchestra Internship in 2015 and 2016, which enabled him to participate in several festivals: Festival das Artes (Coimbra), Cistermúsica (Alcobaça), Festival Internacional de Música de Marvão (Marvão) and Lisbon International Youth Music Fest (Lisbon).

Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with several orchestras: National Wind Orchestra of the Templars, Maia Chamber Orchestra, APROARTE Orchestra, Portuguese Symphonic Band, Metropolitan Academic Orchestra, Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, Almada Chamber Orchestra, MPMP Ensemble, Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, Sintra Municipal Orchestra and Gulbenkian Orchestra. He has also worked with conductors Emilio Pomàrico, Ernest Schelle, Garry Walker, Hannu Lintu, J. S. Béreau, Lawrence Foster, Michael Zilm, Pedro Neves and Wolfgang Lischke, among many others. She has attended several bassoon masterclasses with prestigious names such as Afonso Venturieri, Carlo Colombo, Fábio Cury, Georg Klutsch, Giorgio Mandolesi, Magnus Nilson, Marc Trénel, Ricardo Ramos, Rui Lopes and Sophie Derveux.

She teaches bassoon and chamber music at the Escola Profissional da Metropolitana and Conservatório de Música da Metropolitana, and at Aademia Musical dos Amigos das Crianças. Since 2018, she has been Soloist B in the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.
