Music Theory and Analysis

Currently enrolled in the PhD Programme in Music and Musicology at the Escola de Artes of the Universidade de Évora, under the supervision of Professor Eduardo Lopes. His ongoing thesis is entitled “O Compositor da Era Digital – da prática à pedagogia” (“The Composer of the Digital Age – from practice to pedagogy”).

In 2012, he completed a Master’s degree in Music, specialising in Composition, at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL), under the supervision of composer António Pinho Vargas. In the same year, he also completed a Master’s degree in Music Teaching – specialising in Composition, at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (IPL), under the guidance of António Pinho Vargas, Carlos Marecos, and Francisco Cardoso.

In 2008, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (IPL), where he studied with composers Carlos Caires, Christopher Bochmann, José Luís Ferreira, and Sérgio Azevedo in the area of composition, and with other composers such as Carlos Marecos, João Madureira, Roberto Perez, and Benoît Gibson in other curricular areas.

In 2007, he completed the 8th Grade in Saxophone at the Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa, as well as the rest of the curriculum. He studied composition at secondary level with composer Daniel Schevtz.

Since 2022, he has been Guest Assistant Professor in the Postgraduate Programme in Conducting for Wind Bands and Ensembles at the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria – Escola Superior de Educação e Ciências Sociais. Since 2012, he has been Professor of Theory and Musical Analysis and of Chamber Music at the Escola Profissional da Metropolitana. Since 2008, he has taught Analysis and Composition Techniques and Chamber Music at the Conservatório de Música D. Dinis in Odivelas. Between 2020 and 2023, he served as Pedagogical Director of the Escola Profissional da Metropolitana.

His activity as a composer is mainly focused on wind and percussion instruments. He currently collaborates with publishers Arpejo Editora, AVA Musical Editions, MIC, ROSSIO Music Publishing, SCOMEGNA, and Edizioni Musicali s.r.l..

He is the director of the project mixEnsemble, a musical initiative whose philosophy is to serve music and artists in different musical contexts and for a wide variety of purposes.

Together with saxophonist João Pedro Silva, he co-authored the book O Saxofone Pedagógico | The Educational Saxophone | Le Saxophone pédagogique, a method for saxophone teaching aimed at preparatory level, specifically for the beginning of the 3rd cycle of basic education.
