First Violin

Nuno Santos Rodrigues (born in 2002) began studying violin at the age of six at Independente Futebol Clube Torrense, in the class of Professor Teodoro Guimarães. In 2009, he enrolled at the Palmela Regional Conservatory, in the class of Professor Carlos Lourenço. From 2016 onwards, he attended the class of Professor Ana Filipa Serrão. In his 10th year of schooling, he joined the Escola Profissional Metropolitana, studying under Romeu Madeira and later Joana Dias. In 2021, he enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Music at the Academia Nacional Superior Orquestra (specialising in Orchestral Instrumentalist) under Ana Pereira and, in the last semester, under Aníbal Lima. He also worked with teachers such as César Nogueira, João Pedro Silva, Joana Cipriano, José Pereira, Ágnes Sárosi, Paul Wakabayashi, Evandra Gonçalves, Alexei Eremine, and Vítor Vieira, among others.

He has participated in several national competitions, winning first prize in the EPM Young Soloist Competition/INATEL Award 2020/2021 and joint first prize in the INATEL Award 2023 Competition – Soloists with the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana. He also received honourable mentions in the 20th edition of the Fundão International Competition (2019) and in the 34th edition of the Young Musicians Award, in the Chamber Music – Intermediate Level category, with the Trio Ineditus group (2021).

As an orchestral instrumentalist, he has collaborated with several orchestras, such as the Orquestra Sinfónica de Palmela, Orquestra Sinfónica Ensemble, Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa and Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil. In this capacity, he has performed in important national venues and in Anzing, Munich. In this way, he has come into contact with conductors such as Jean-Bernard Pommier, Cesário Costa, Pedro Neves, Pedro Carneiro, Jean-Marc Burfin, Emilio Pomàrico and Michael Zilm, among others. He is currently a member of the First Violins section of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.
