He began studying the piano at the age of eight, moving on to the clarinet shortly afterwards.
In 1990, he started his violin studies at Escola Profissional de Artes de Mirandela, in the class of professor António da Cunha e Silva. He continued his higher studies at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra where he completed his degree in the violin class of professor Aníbal Lima. He participated in masterclasses with professors Gerardo Ribeiro, Zakhar Bron, Sergei Kravchenko, David Ovchareck, among others.
He was selected for international youth orchestras such as Orchestre des Jeunes de la Mediterranée, Aberdeen Festival Orchestra and Nationaal Jeugd Orkest, with which he performed in some of the most emblematic concert halls in Europe. He has performed as concertmaster and also as soloist with the Esproarte orchestra and the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana.
He was awarded the prize “Best Pupil 1995” by the Civil Government of Bragança. He won first prize in the international competition “Maurice Raskin” (Belgium 1996). He founded the quartet Esproarte, with which he also won 1st prize in the RDP Young Musicians Competition (1996) at medium level, and was semi-finalist in the International Competition of Aberdeen, Scotland. As part of various formations and also as a soloist, he has performed in several countries, such as Canada, Scotland, Holland, Switzerland, France, Spain, Austria, Germany and Angola.
He was the author and director of “História da Música no Palco”, produced by the Conservatório de Música de Santarém and premiered at the Teatro Sá da Bandeira.
He has been a member of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa since 2002. He is currently teaching at the Metropolitana’s Professional School and National Superior Academy of Orchestra.
He attended the Masters course in Instrument Pedagogy at the Metropolitana / Universidade Lusíada. He is a founding member of OUTRARTE, a multidisciplinary project devoted to the conception and realization of innovative music programs.
