Rodrigo Azevedo

Percussion

Born in Amora, Rodrigo Azevedo began his musical studies in 2002 at the Banda Filarmónica Democrática Timbre Seixalense, in the Percussion Class of Professor Marco Fernandes, and later with Professor Valter Passarinho. In 2012, he enrolled in the Professional Course at the Escola Profissional da Metropolitana, continuing his studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. In 2017, he enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Orchestral Instrumentalist Option) at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Music Education at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. During his academic career, he has worked with the following teachers: Andreu Rico, Fernando Llopis, Jeffery Davis, João Carlos Pacheco, Marco Fernandes, Miguel Herrera, Pedro Carneiro, Pedro Silva and Richard Buckley.

In 2014, he was awarded 1st Prize in the Chamber Music category (Intermediate Level) of the Young Musicians Award, with the Metropolitana Percussion Duo. In 2016, he participated in the Gulbenkian Orchestra Internship. Throughout his training, he also attended masterclasses with various percussionists, including Marinus Komst, Nick Woud, Bart Quartier, Jisu Jung, Vassilena Serafimova and Ney Rosauro.

He has collaborated with renowned ensembles, including the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa,  Orquestra Calouste Gulbenkian, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra de Câmara de Almada, Lisbon Film Orchestra, Lusitanus Ensemble, Ensemble MPMP,  Orquestra Municipal de Sintra, Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa and the Orquestra dos Jovens Músicos, among others. He was a member of the Portuguese Navy Band as a percussionist between 2019 and 2024.

As a teacher, in 2022 he developed his pedagogical activity at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional and, since 2018, he has been a professor of percussion at the Conservatório de Música da Metropolitana.
