Jian Hong was born in the People’s Republic of China into a family of musicians, her father a violinist and his mother a singer.
She began studying the violin at the age of five, taking her first lessons with his father. Three years later she started learning the cello. She then moved to Beijing, where entered the city’s Central Conservatory. She was assistant to the 1st cello of the Youth Orchestra of the People’s Republic of China, under the direction of Maestro Muhai Tang, during which time she toured the world and had the opportunity to visit all the European countries. She was later awarded a scholarship from the Chinese government that allowed her to settle in Moscow, where she entered the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, at the time considered one of the most prestigious schools in the world. In Moscow she had the opportunity to study with Professor Gavrich.
She attended masterclasses with the great cello master Paul Tortelier.
She settled in Sweden in 1991 and later obtained Swedish nationality. In Sweden he was a member of the Helsinborg Orchestra. He has also collaborated with the Norrköping Orchestra and the Sinfonietta Falun.
She studied with the first cello of the Swedish Symphony Orchestra, Elemér Lavotha. In 1997 she joined the Macao Chamber Orchestra as assistant 1st cello and taught cello at the Macao Conservatory. She regularly performs in chamber music ensembles, with which she has performed in several European and Asian countries, taking part in various festivals, including the Macau International Music Festival and the China Arts Festival. He has worked with the most important conductors in the People’s Republic of China, such as conductor Long Yu, conductor Yuan Fang and conductor Muhai Tang.
In 2001 he settled in Lisbon. Since then, she has been a member of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra and a teacher at the National Superior Orchestra Academy. In this orchestra she has had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned conductors and musicians.
In 2011 she recorded a CD with António Fragoso’s Trio for the Brilliant Classics label. In October 2015 he released a CD with the complete violin works of Frederico de Freitas, on which he collaborated in the recording of the Sonata for Violin and Cello.
Jian Hong has dual Portuguese and Swedish nationality.
