TUBA | ORCHESTRA REPERTOIRE AND EXCERPTS
He began his musical studies at the Professional Artistic School of Vale do Ave (ARTAVE) in the trumpet class of Professor Paulo Silva, and later in the tuba class of Professor Alexandre Fonseca.
He attended the Superior National Academy of Orchestra in the class of professor Sérgio Carolino, where he finished his degree. As a scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, he continued his studies in Switzerland, at the Hochschule Musik und Theater Zürich in the class of the prestigious professor Anne Jelle-Visser, where he finished the Orchesterdiplom with the highest classification by unanimous vote of the jury (diploma of merit).
In 2012, he obtained a master’s degree from the Lisbon Superior School of Music.
He has worked with the most prestigious tubists in the world, such as Philippe Legris, Michael Lind, Thierry Thibault, Melvin Coulberston, Oystein Baadsvik, Walter Hilgers, Roger Bobo, Guy Michel, Simon Styles, Shmuel Hershko, Oren Marshall, Gene Pokorny, Miguel Moreno, Steven Mead and Daniel Perantoni.
As a guest musician, he has collaborated with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, OrchestrUtópica, Algarve Orchestra, Northern Orchestra, Beiras Philarmonia Orchestra, St. Gallen Orchestra, Winterthur Orchestra, and the contemporary music group Nuveum Collegium Zürich.
In recent years, he has collaborated regularly with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Zurich Opera Orchestra and Remix Ensemble – Casa da Música. He has performed solo and in chamber music groups in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Scotland and Holland.
He currently teaches at the Tuba Class at the Lisbon Superior School of Music and at the Metropolitan Professional School. He is currently studying for a PhD in Musical Arts at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
He is a founding member of the LXbrass Metal Ensemble and a member of the Seixal Metal Group.
