Escola Profissional da Metropolitana (EPM) was established in the 2008/2009 academic year with the Instrumentalists in Strings and Keyboard course and the Instrumentalists in Wind and Percussion course, both at a level equivalent to the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades of upper secondary education. After fifteen years of activity, it is now fair to say it has been a successful venture.

The virtues of integrated music education are well known, where general education subjects merge with specialised training — in this case, individual instrument lessons combined with chamber music and orchestral practice.

Workplace-based training, enhanced by the highly stimulating environment that characterises the world of Metropolitana — under the motto One Orchestra, Three Schools — results in an integrated teaching model capable of shaping young citizens and musicians, fully prepared to start a professional career as instrumentalists and to continue their studies at higher education level.

Alongside their Chamber Music work, EPM students are part of the Orquestra Clássica Metropolitana and the Orquestra de Sopros da Metropolitana, being challenged throughout each academic year with a season marked by a wide variety of activities and repertoires — Temporada Ensaio Geral 2024/2025.
