Tickets for saleLudwig van Beethoven composed sixteen string quartets in his lifetime, the first six having been published in the notebook Op. 18, in 1801. In this program, the Metropolitan Soloists perform the first two, both dating from 1799. They are scores that reflect the influence of their main predecessors, Haydn and Mozart. However, at a time that coincided with the culmination of his first creative period, Beethoven added greater drama and explicit influences from symphonic writing to them.
