It’s called the Big Band, the instrumental formation associated with the Jazz Swing popularized in the 1920s and 1930s by figures such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman. It is in the resonance of this century-old tradition that the students of the Metropolitana Professional School venture here under the guidance of Lino Guerreiro. In the company of clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, double bass and percussion, they sway to the music of historical figures such as Louis Prima, George Gershwin and Glenn Miller. However, they also pave the way for new talents.
