Sometimes, when we listen to music, we imagine landscapes, adventures and even feelings. Simply sitting in front of an orchestra, we travel to distant places, to places that don’t even exist, to memories and to the future. And all this without a single word being spoken. Music will never replace text or images, but there are scores that seem to want to tell us things. In this concert, we’re going to think about this possibility together. How did Rossini so accurately portray Figaro’s antics in the orchestral overture to The Barber of Seville? How did Mendelssohn manage to illustrate the waves of the sea and the setting of an impressive cave? How did Beethoven take us for a walk in the countryside and feel the joy of contact with nature?
