The 18 students who compose yhe Youth Orchestra of Santa Maria Maior, a partnership between the Lisbon Parish Council and the Metropolitana Conservatory, will perform this Friday at St. Domingos Church, in Lisbon. It is one more proof of the artistic and pedagogical versatility of Metropolitana.
The fantastic St. Domingos Church, in the square with the same name, in Rossio, Lisbon, hosts this Friday, at 7pm, the first Christmas concert of Santa Maria Maior, organised by the Parish Council. In this concert, named “Christmas Sounds”, the Youth Orchestra of Santa Maria Maior will take part, a joint project of the council with the Metropolitana Music Conservatory.
“It is a great joy to have our 18 students playing in this Christmas concert. It is a sign of their artistic growth and, for us, it is the pedagogical reflection of our work. The Metropolitana Music Conservatory has had this decentralised project with the Santa Maria Maior Parish Council for two years. The council “recruits” and manages the students, all residents of the parish, and our teachers give them music lessons”, explains Sofia Cosme, director of the Metropolitana Conservatory of Music.
The young members of the Orchestra “will play three short violin works from the Suzuki book”.
The Sounds of Christmas concert will also include the Choir Saber Maior, another project of the Santa Maria Maior Parish Council, and the Choir of the Little Singers, the Chamber Orchestra, the Wind Orchestra and the Saxophone Quartet of the Academy of Music Amateurs.
