Joana Cipriano began her musical studies at the Conservatório Regional de Castelo Branco in the class of the teacher António Ramos, with whom she concluded the Instrumental Course in 2004, at the Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior. She completed her degree in Violin at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, in the class of Professor António Anjos, and in the class of Chamber Music of Professors Irene Lima and Olga Prats, having completed in 2013 the master’s degrees in Performance and Pedagogy at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, in the class of Professors António Anjos and Alexandra Mendes. During this period, she also studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in the class of professor Martynas Svegzda von Bekker, through the Erasmus Programme.

During her career she was awarded in several competitions, namely an Honourable Mention in the Competition of Arcos Júlio Cardona and the 1st (2007) and 2nd (2006) places in the Young Musicians Prize, Chamber Music Category / Superior Level. She has enriched her training by attending masterclasses with renowned international teachers and interpreters, such as Serguei Arantounian, Gerardo Ribeiro, Angel Sanpedro, Jan Talich, Rainer Schimdt, Itamar Golan, Quarteto Artis, Quarteto Borodin and Quarteto Talich. She has performed concerts in several countries including Lithuania, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Spain, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Mozambique, South Africa, Cape Verde and Palestine. He has performed in several festivals, namely the Festival Pablo Casals (Prades) and the Festival de l’Eté Mosan (Brussels).

She has also collaborated with various formations such as the Orquestra Gulbenkian , the Ensemble 20/21, OrchestrUtopica, the Remix Ensemble and the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, among others. At the same time she did her Viola d’Arco training, working with António Oliveira e Silva, Pedro Muñoz, Ana Bela Chaves and Pedro Meireles.

Joana Cipriano is a viola player and founding member of the quartet ArtZen, with which she obtained 1st Place in the Young Musicians Award, and of the Camerata Alma Mater conducted by maestro Pedro Neves. Since 2017, she has held the position of Chefe de Naipe at the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, a formation she has been part of since 2015.

She develops her pedagogical activity at Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional and at Escola Profissional da Metropolitana.
