Pedro Silva

Pedro Silva was born in Braga, having started his musical education by the hand of his grandfather Francisco Guilherme. He studied at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music, in Braga, and is a graduate of the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho, in the Miguel Bernat class. He attended the Free Percussion Course at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts of Porto (ESMAE) and the Superior Course of Orchestral Instrumentist at the Superior National Academy of Orchestra, in the class of Professor Jean-François Lézé. He is currently a student at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, in the class of Professor Carlos Voss.

He collaborated with the Percussion Group and Chamber Orchestra of the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho, the Percussion Group of ESMAE in Porto, the Percussions of Metropolitana, the Orquestra do Norte and the Nova Blue Jazz Quartet. Also with the orchestras of the television programs Parque Maior, Globos de Ouro and Da-me Música. He regularly collaborates with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, the Orquestra Gulbenkian, the Orquestra Clássica da Madeira and the OrchestrUtopica. He also collaborated with the group Divino Suspiro, the Ensemble Português de Trombones, with whom he recorded a CD, and the Orquestra de Sonhos, participating in the live recording of a DVD with Da Weasel.

He has participated in Percussion masterclasses with Robert Van Sice, Emannuel Séjourné, Miguel Bernat, Graham Jones, Jan Pustjens, with percussionists Allen Otte, James Culley and Rusty Burge, The Percussion Group (Cincinatti) and with Nicolas Martanciow (Soloist of the Paris Orchestra ). Since October 2000, he has been Soloist B in the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra. He was part of the Ensemble RAUM, as a drummer, as well as the group Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble (Lume). He is a founding member of the “4.º Tempo”, cultural movement in Braga. Directed the IV and V Music Workshop in the Percussion Class in Montalvo and participated as a teacher in the 2nd Academic Meeting of Percussion in Setúbal. He has been drummer for the CORVOS string quartet since 2006.

He has been a professor at the Superior National Academy of Orchestra (Metropolitana), in the percussion class, since 2008.
