Paulo Pacheco

Paulo Pacheco (b. 1976, Ponta Delgada), studied at the Regional Conservatory with Graça Paiva Cunha and António Teves. Graduated from the Lisbon Superior School of Music, he graduated from the Piano Class of Miguel Henriques and the Chamber Music Class of Olga Prats. He completed his Masters in Piano (Master in Music) at the University of North Texas (USA), under the guidance of Vladimir Viardo, and completed his studies in the specialization program at the Chamber Music Center. In 2017, he obtained the title of Specialist in Music granted by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Musical Arts at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences / ESML.

Laureate with the 1st Chamber Music Prize (Higher Level) in the Young Musicians Prize 1999, he was awarded the 3rd Prize in the Piano Concerto Competition of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) and was a finalist in the Helena Sá e Costa and competitions UNT Piano Competition, having also been a semi-finalist in the Nina Wideman Piano Competition. Also noteworthy is the presentation of recitals at music festivals held in Barcelona, ​​Toulouse, Vigo, Frankfurt, Estoril, Coimbra, Guimarães, Mafra and Azores. He performed at the Museu da F. C. Gulbenkian, at the São Luiz and São Carlos Theaters, at the Aula Magna, at Culturgest, at the CCB and at the Casa da Música. He has performed solo with the orchestras Sinfónica Juvenil, Metropolitana de Lisboa, Nacional do Porto and Filarmonia das Beiras.

He is a member of the Lisbon Ensemble 20/21, collaborated with the Orchestrutópica and the Ensemble Collegium Musicum Electroacustico. He played with the Matosinhos String Quartet, the Orquestra do Algarve and the Companhia Nacional de Bailado. Since 2004, he has shared the stage with flutist Nuno Inácio. He is a founding member of the following chamber formations:, Trio Max Bruch and Triunvirato.

At the same time, and since 2005, he has been teaching at the National Academy of Orchestra (ANSO) and at the Lisbon Superior School of Music (ESML), as professor of Chamber Music. At ANSO, he was a member of the Board of Directors between 2005 and 2008, and held the positions of Member of AMEC / Metropolitana for one term. Among the numerous projects developed, the creation of the INATEL Prize, the conceptualization of the only Masters in Music Education in the institution and the creation of the Young Soloists program stand out. Organized the entire process of submitting currently existing courses to A3ES. For 13 years he was coordinator of the Chamber Music course unit. At ESML, he is a member of the Council of Representatives, the Technical-Scientific Council and Coordinator of International Relations. From its groups, register the selection to participate in the Harmos Festival, Estoril International Music Festival, ESML Composition Week and Young Soloist Concerts. In this context, and in an academic context, numerous works premiered in Portugal. Among the chamber formations that he has already directed, he has seven groups that received the Young Musicians Award (Higher Level).

Paulo Pacheco has guided chamber music masterclasses in Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Poland. He is a member of the European Chamber Music Teachers Association.
