VIOLA | CHAMBER MUSIC
Born in 1962 in the United States of America. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied violin with Jenny Rudin and viola with Bernard Zoslav and Lilian Fuchs. His chamber music teachers included, among others, members of the Guaneri Quartet, America Quartet, Cleveland Quartet, Zoltan Szekely of the Hungaria Quartet, Colin Hampton of the Griller Quartet and Amadeus Quartet.
He graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and received the Hugo Kotschalk Chamber Music Excellence Award. He was a member of the Myriad Quartet (winner of the Carmel Chambermusic Award in 1991) with which he recorded for radio, was founder of Cypress String Quartet and participated in several concerts in the United States. He has extensive experience in chamber music, including performances with Arthur Balsam, António Rosado, António Saiote, Paulo Gaio Lima, among others.
Paul Wakabayashi has participated in Festivals in Aspen and Taos in the USA and in Banff (Canada). He served as an orchestral director during the Ashland Shakespeare Festival, in Oregon, in 1990.
He is currently a professor at the Superior National Academy of Orchestra, also teaches at the Faculty of Évora and is part of the Lacerda Quartet.
