Jill Lawson

Piano

Jill Lawson, a Portuguese-American pianist, was born in Mexico in 1974. Amongst other things, she won 2nd Prize at the Vianna da Motta International Piano Competition, was a finalist in the American Pianists Association Classical Fellowship Awards and won 4th Prize at the Schubert International Competition in Dortmund.

As a soloist and in Chamber Music, she has given recitals and played with orchestras in Europe, America and Asia. Together with his brother Eliot, a violinist, he forms the Lawson & Lawson Duo. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Cascais MP Quartet.

She has been a guest adjunct professor at ESART/IPCB since 2008 and has been coordinator of the Piano Class at the Colégio Moderno Music School since 2014, in Lisbon.

Jill began her piano studies at the age of eight in Antwerp and went on to achieve the highest marks and distinctions at prestigious schools such as the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Brussels and the Amsterdam University School, where she studied with Jan Wijn. He completed his Master’s Degree in Piano in 2004 at the Peabody Conservatory in the class of Leon Fleisher.

She has taken various courses with D. Bashkirov, G. Sebok and M. Tipo. He collaborated on the documentary film ‘Een hartstochtelijke les’ directed by Roel van Dalen in 2001 during a workshop by Maria João Pires in Belgais. He has recorded chamber music works by António Fragoso and Frederico de Freitas, as well as Hindemith’s Sonatas for violin and piano, for the BrilliantClassics label. More recently, he recorded chamber music by Joly Braga Santos for Toccata Classics.
