Violin

Violin section

He began studying the violin at the age of 8 in Germany. He later graduated from the Lisbon School of Music in the Violin Class of Professor Aníbal Lima and in the Chamber Music Class of Professor Irene Lima. As a recipient of a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, he continued his studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he obtained a master’s degree in Artistic Performance in the class of Professors Martynas Svegzda von Bekker and Ingrida Armonaite.

With the Blanc Quartet, he won 1st prize in the Young Musicians Award in the Chamber Music category, later recording a CD with works by J. Braga Santos, A. Webern and D. Schostakovich with the support of the GDA Foundation. He was also awarded 2nd and 3rd prizes in the Violin category.

He has performed chamber music concerts at various national festivals such as the Estoril Music Weeks Festival, the Leiria Music Festival, the Póvoa do Varzim International Music Festival, the Viseu International Spring Music Festival and the Cantabile Festival. As a member of various orchestras, he has performed in concert halls such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Cologne Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Philharmonie d’Paris, the National Music Auditorium in Madrid and the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, among others.

He has performed solo with the Lisbon School of Music Orchestra and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater Orchestra.

He collaborates with various ensembles and orchestras, such as the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Os Músicos do Tejo, the Sinfonieta de Lisboa, the Orquestra de Macau, the Lisbon Ensemble 20/21, the Ensemble Alorna, the Americantiga Ensemble and the Camerata Alma Mater, of which he is a founding member.

He was a member of the Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra between 2012 and 2014, and of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie between 2014 and 2016. From 2018 to 2023 he was a member of the first violins of the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

He has recorded several CDs with various ensembles for the Pentatone, Naïve, Naxos, Trem Azul and Piano Classics labels, among others.

He currently teaches violin and chamber music at the Escola Profissional da Metropolitana.
